Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Wins..

This is not about the most significant and influential citizen ad ever written , which happened to be for Obama. Nor is it Obama's sense of humour.

This is simply about Obama himself. He's fun. He keeps it real. This is the very early stage - candidates are running around setting down positions, Obama is just getting bucketloads of cash and getting ready to run.

Anyone (such as myself) who runs marathon can tell you that there is a huge element in hard races - which 2008 will certainly be - of mind. The runners that spend their energy in the early stages of the game really get flattened at the finish line.

I remember seeing a sign at my last marathon  - that someone had made up for us - it said "you are all kenyans"

I think thats great.  I just wanted to post that of all the candidates that are out there Obama is the most fun! .

After all, what more can you say of the call for David Letterman to unite the democratic party at a brokered convention.  This inspires me to write.. my .... (drum roll) TOP TEN REASONS WHY OBAMA WILL WIN THE PRESIDENCY...

10. Only candidate that consistently opposes a 200 billion dollar a year mistake. (subtle move!!)

  1. Voters will think they're voting for "Rocky Balboa"
  2. Won his squeaker of a senate race by mere 86% of the vote
  3. We need a president that can rollerblade to congress
  4. Because the GOP will try to run Alan Keyes against him again!
  5. We'll get to trade Dick Cheney for Hillary Clinton
  6. He'll appoint John McCain as ambassador to Iraq
  7. His socks will always be in the white house hamper
  8. Alberto Gonzalez gets to write off the entire US Constitution
and the number one reason ....
1. There is no "off" position for the Genius Switch!

Re: Hillary won't be anyone's VP (none / 0)

Obama had the best analogy last night (Dave asked him if he'd be HRC's VP... he said NO, but of course that is what anyone would say.... you don't play for 2nd place) He said, we are all on the same team and that the candidates were all trying out for Quarterback.  I liked that analogy.

Ps. Also my number one issue (none / 0)

My number one issue is ethics reform and Obama is in charge of that right now. His bill, if it were passed, would have effectively repaired what is really wrong with Washington DC.

I missed Obama on Letterman last night.  Can anyone elaborate on his appearance?  Is it on youtube?

Re: Ps. Also my number one issue (none / 0)

Obama puts a big smile on my face every time I see him on TV. He would be an incredibly strong candidate in the general election, especially against old McCain.

No, heyAnita, you said you were for Edwards because he was solid on your number one issue, which is (or was) the environment.

Re: Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Wins.. (none / 0)

did you notice that i don't post a tagline with my comments - i see by yours that every single post you make seems to be for john edwards.

listen, heres the thing - edwards was GREAT at the SF press conference and I am now officially a big fan.

Is he a president? I am not sure. I'm not really for anyone right now. I am an activist, at least by nature, and I do get involved fairly strongly but - the one thing I have repeated consistently is that I almost never choose my candidate until they debate at least once or twice.

thats why I was for uncle howie in 04. it innoculates me against the slick and prepared versions of things... sorry if I am disappointing you but I'm not really an official endorsement of anything except for maybe slightly chilled gummy strawberries and gatorade.

Re: Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Wins.. (none / 0)

I'm a strong Edwards supporter - that's why I have a tagline that shows my support for Edwards. (It's also a really good quote.)

You aren't really disappointing me - I realize people will change their minds.

Re: Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Wins.. (3.00 / 0)

He is a progressive and he is an outsider and isn't part of the baggage of the establishment in the Senate because he doesn't have a long voting history.  You can look at his Illinois voting record but most General Assembly people in Illinois vote the liberal line from  a liberal state of Illinois. I think Hillary Clinton stumbles in late December and early January when the Dems in the fall have to approve the funds for the Iraq war and Obama comes from behind and wins.

Are you sure about that?

They voted for stem cell research, they are about to vote for universal health care, and other liberal things.

Re: Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Wins.. (none / 0)

Well let me alter that, the Black Caucus in the House and Senate vote the liberal line anyway with voting for stem cell research and universal health care, that's why alot of them can't run for state wide office because they vote liberal in the state of Illinois.

Re: Top Ten (none / 0)

http://www.galluppoll.com/content/Defaul t.aspx?ci=27163

Sen. Hillary Clinton remains the dominant presidential front-runner among Democrats nationally, with twice the support as her nearest challenger. Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards, and former Vice President Al Gore are tightly bunched in second place, with all other candidates in low single digits. If Gore is removed from the ballot and his supporters' second-place choices substituted, Clinton's lead becomes even more dominant, with Obama and Edwards tied far behind.

These data were collected April 2-5, just as reports of Obama's first-quarter fundraising success were made public. The survey results suggest that while Obama may have had a great deal of financial momentum in the past quarter, it was not matched by any increase in voter support.

The trend for Obama has been relatively static. The Illinois senator ends up in this latest April poll essentially where he was last January; Obama gets exactly half of the vote given to Clinton.

Edwards has held his own during this time. He has averaged 13% across the five polls, and ends up at 15%. Edwards had one slightly weaker showing in early March, but in the next poll, taken shortly after his announcement that he would continue his campaign despite his wife Elizabeth's recurrence of cancer, his standing recovered.

Unannounced candidate Gore pulls in 14% of the vote of Democrats in this poll. He may have received a slight boost in polls conducted after his Oscar appearance, but the benefits he received appear to have subsided.

Clinton's continued dominance as the front-runner across the five Gallup Polls conducted so far this year (and for that matter in national polls going back to 2005) is therefore remarkable. There has been some movement from poll to poll, as would be expected, but to this date, no other candidate has challenged her hegemony over the process.

The first-quarter fundraising reports announced last week provided an additional quantitative indicator of where the Democratic candidates stand in the race for their party's nomination. Obama received a good deal of positive press for his ability to come close to matching Clinton's first-quarter monetary total. The latest Gallup Poll was in the field when these results were made public; future polling will show whether publicity about fundraising has an effect on rank-and-file voters.

As of early April, the data show that despite holding his own with Clinton on the fundraising front, Obama continues to trail her by a considerable distance in national Democratic preferences, as do Edwards, Gore, and other third-tier candidates.

Re: Top Ten (none / 0)

I think this Gallup poll is not correct because it asks whom you would vote for amongst a spectrum of candidates that include the still-popular Al Gore. This poll adds up 14% support for Gore. If we split that evenly amongst edwards and obama it would read 43% Clinton, 26% Obama, 25% Edwards. I think a better statistical view is that it's really a horse race, the polls that include phantom candidates divide up too many voters all too willing, in that they know this poll is early - to make a statement with their response (Gore is for the environment, I'll vote for him and see what they say.. etc.) also those respondents tend to be strong voters..
